Talk All You Want

I am a big fan of this TV series on Fox that I religiously watch every Monday night. Once, the main character uttered the words that bore truth about the selfishness of human beings. He said that people love to talk about other people’s lives because it makes them feel superior. Sad? Harsh? Of course! Unfortunately it’s a fact. If you are thin-skinned, you will never survive the atrocities of life.

Talking about other people’s lives makes us feel righteous, because we tend to compare our own mistakes with their mistakes. We hopelessly search for loopholes to make our lives seem more favorable than theirs. I take it that you experienced talking about other people too; it may also be called gossiping. If you already did it once or a couple of times in your life, then you should also know that when other people do that to you, you shouldn’t mind.

People will never stop talking

You must know that people were born with gossiping carefully encrypted in their genes. You must also know that people will never stop talking, especially now in our digital age where communication has accomplished great leaps of development; gossiping has never been so easy and convenient. Social networking sites have been mediums of professional stalking and gossiping in the world, plus you can now access them anytime and anywhere you want even in your smartphones.

None of your business

We should never forget that we are living in a free world, and whatever that goes on inside other people’s minds is none of our business. Each and every one of us has the freedom to think what we want to think, just as you are completely free to think what you want to think. The more you care about other’s opinions the more you give them power to ruin you. Don’t base your personal judgement to what other people thinks; you are your own person, and no one knows you better than yourself.

You can’t please everyone

Whether you be in your best behavior or not, people will still believe what they want to believe. You can’t just sway or curb someone else’s opinion by acting nice in front of him. As Dita Von Teese once said, “you can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches”. Just like the latest gadgets that electronic manufacturers produce everyday, they always say that theirs is the best, but once you tried to surf the internet for reviews, you will definitely see some negative feedbacks.

Bitches will always go bitchin’ and haters will never stop hating; therefore if you hear someone talk nasty about you, brush it off, stand tall, and let it go.

The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

With all the progress and developments technology has to offer, do we still have time to pause and simply do nothing? Nowadays people can get out of their houses without their pants on, but not without their smartphones. Everyday, we try our best to keep up with this fast paced world, running and working for dear life without stopping. The complete 24 hours of the whole day seems to be insufficient with all the things that we have to do and accomplish for the day. And what do we get after working our ass off for the whole day? Can you honestly and with conviction tell me right now that you are a hundred percent fulfilled with your life?

Sometimes it is best if you pause for a while, take a step back to have a better view of your life in a good distance, reflect, and just watch your life roll out in your eyes. Have you seen this movie entitled Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts in it? Well, originally it is a book that was later on adapted in to film because it really is a good one. It’s a story about a modern day woman trying to find meaning and purpose in life.

Just like you and I, this woman is trapped in the world of useless commodities until she finally decided to give it all up in her desperate search for meaning. She went to different parts of the world trying to chase her heartbeats. One of the most striking lessons (at least for me) that I picked up in that movie is that part where they taught her the idea of the sweetness of doing nothing. Turned out that Europeans have this tradition where they, unlike the Americans, take some time off to savor their every moment.

You can start just by taking a day off, don’t go anywhere, and just stay at home all by yourself. This will work best if you remain alone for the rest of the day. Wake up late, and prepare a hearty meal, with your favorite wine. Don’t eat in a hurry; let it sit in your mouth satisfying your taste buds in all possible way. Enjoy every ingredient you lovingly added in what you are eating, and top it off with the kick of your wine on the side. To complete the equation, play your favorite chill and feel-good music. Turn up your player’s volume, or you can make use of your trusty mobile earphones so as not to disturb your neighbors. Stare in blank space, but not with a blank stare. Analyze your life and try to create a mental picture of what your plans are, how you want to implement those plans , and lastly make a firm decision on where you want your life to head on.

It turns out, doing nothing isn’t exactly doing nothing! You are simply plugging the holes in your life in the process. Don’t get so caught up in the ways of the world; keep yourself grounded and enjoy the sweetness of doing nothing.

The Battle of the Brains

Over the years, the never-ending debate of which is the better gender still is left unanswered. While it’s true that men differ from women in a lot of aspects, the question still remains on which gender is superior overall. Therefore, scientists have scrutinized the differences between the two with regard emotions, memory, business success, and longevity.

A study conducted by Daniel Amen, MD, and other researchers that analyzed imaging scans among 26,000 people discovered that women have increased blood flow in 112 of the 128 brain regions than men. This indicates by sheer fact that women’s brains are much more active than men’s. The most intriguing difference of all is that women were found out to have higher level of brain activity in the prefrontal cortex. That part of the brain governs planning, organization, impulse control, and learning from mistakes. It is sometimes called the brain’s CEO. On the other hand, men’s brains show greater activity in the areas associated with visual perception, spatial intelligence, and form recognition.

Having identified those differences doesn’t mean that one specific gender is already dominant against the other. According to Dr. Amen, “Even when men and women succeed at the same task, they tend to call on different strengths and areas of the brain to achieve this result.” Read the rest of this article to have a closer look at the differences found by experts between men and women.

·         Women have better memories. It has been found out that women have greater activity in the hippocampus of the brain, which is the reason why women are better in recalling where things were last placed and rarely misplaces items such as the car keys, smartphone, or the remote control. Swedish psychologists found out that in the tests on several types of memory done on both genders, results favoured women in almost all the areas studied. Although women have the upper hand when it comes to recalling, men have the edge in a type of memory called visuospatial processing. In simple words, men have better sense of direction than women, which is why men are more likely to remember how to find his way out of the woods.

·         Men have larger brains. Because men’s bodies are generally bigger than women’s, the brains of the former are 8 to 10 percent bigger than the latter. Additionally, men have about 4 percent more neurons than women do. It’s actually too early to jump into conclusions that men are intellectually superior to women. Amid the brain size and number of neurons, scientists point that the distribution of neurons is different between genders. Dr. Jill Goldstein at Harvard Medical School found out that women have larger volume in both the frontal cortex and the limbic cortex, which is involved in emotional responses. This is why women deal with their emotions as transparent as an LCD screen protector as compared to men who typically hide their emotions within themselves.

·         Women live longer. Studies suggest that women have greater self-control than men. This can be seen by how women take better care of themselves more than men do. Statistics also show that women have lower rates of substance abuse, anti-social personalities, and ADHD. Women are also 14 times less likely to be locked up in jail or get traffic tickets. That trait in women is what makes them outlive men. However, their lack of adventure in life due to increased self-limitations makes women more prone to anxiety disorders and depression. While women live longer, men are generally happier.

There, the facts have been laid out. Now it’s up to you to answer one of the most controversial questions of all time, “Which gender is more superior?”
